A few minutes ago, I was scrolling on my tumblr when this blog appeared in my dashboard. Taking a look at it, I found this video of a woman called Jean Kilbourne making an speech about how women are treated in our society. I want you to watch the video.

This is what the owner of the blog said which I totally agree with:

Happy International Women’s Day!
Ladies, let’s stop criticizing one another and ourselves based on all those crazy social categories (how we look, how many partners/kids we (don’t) have, how well we balance our 1000 jobs, etc, etc.). What we should be really critical of instead is the oppressive system and our own participation in perpetuating it.
Oh, and I don’t buy the whole “men are from Mars, women are from Venus” business. Let’s face it; we are BOTH from the planet Earth, and we’d better find a way to share it.

And that is what I wrote when I reblogged the post (because I felt the necessity to do it) and I want to share with whoever could be reading this:

I know that the International Women’s Day was yesterday. However, I think that the year that this day will not be necessary, that year is the one that we will truly achieve our goal. Women are equal to men. Women MUST NOT be objectified. Women are human beings just as men and that’s how we should be treated.

We have been listening to the things that this woman in the video, Jean Kilbourne, says for ages. We all agree that she is right and we are against all this deshumanizing in women and the pressure that society puts on us to make us want to look perfect and flawless. Yet, as she said, we are not moving any step forward. We kind of moving backwards in this issue.

I think that, although we listen this kind of speeches quite often and specially during the International Women’s Day, we should not forget the true facts in our society and it will not harm us listening to them once again.

Fellow women, remind yourself that your not an object. You are a human being. Treat yourself as one and make the others treat you as one.
